Limor Schafman here, writing to you about this new group I'm forming here in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
As some of you may know, I worked in the video game industry in the mid/late 90's and have since kept my toes in it. I have been involved with Games For Change and a bit with Games for Health for the past two years. Serious Games caught my eye at the Game Developers Conference when it first started there lo these many years ago.
Several of us from Games for Change have wanted for some time to start something in the Region. And now is the time.
This group is meant to bring together anyone in the serious games industry - game developers, designers, character designers, graphic artists, 3D specialists, musicians, story writers, marketing experts, government agencies, organizations, corporations, etc.
Our focus will be not on just games for change or games for health, but all "serious games." And, yes, even entertainment oriented games [we serious gamers can learn a lot from them].
And the mediums we will focus on are not just PC or console based video games, but also advergames, mobile games, virtual worlds, MMOGs, and other formats as they evolve.
We have a small community at this point in time, and we have much to learn and share between and among all of us. The topics we cover will range from the technical to the operational to the budgetary and the storytelling, and everything in between.
I am kicking this off, but what this group becomes will depend on you. This is just the beginning, so let's see what we can create together.
Thank you for your interest. And please write me with ideas, questions and comments.
